Cognitive / IQ Assessments

Assess capacity across different domains to identify cognitive strengths and areas needing support. These assessments are valuable for understanding giftedness, intellectual disability, and informing educational planning.

Gain insight into challenges related to reading, writing, mathematics, processing speed, and working memory. These assessments are ideal for identifying specific learning disorders (such as dyslexia or dysgraphia) and guiding effective school-based support and planning.

Comprehensive developmental and behavioural evaluations to explore characteristics of autism in children, adolescents, and adults. Our process uses gold-standard assessment tools and a compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming approach.

Assessments and who we can assess at Scopic Care

Frequently Asked Questions relating to Assessments

How do I know which assessment my child or I need?

It’s completely normal to feel unsure. When you book an appointment, we begin by understanding your needs and meeting for an initial assessment before proceeding with any formal testing. This session helps us gather relevant background information and ensure we select the most appropriate assessment for your situation. You’ll be kept fully informed throughout the process, with clear explanations of our recommendations and next steps.

What does an assessment involve?

Evaluations typically consist of interviews, standardised testing, questionnaires filled out by various individuals, and a detailed written report. We ensure to clarify each step before we begin, maintaining a supportive and transparent approach throughout the process. Additionally, a feedback session is provided to review the results and recommendations in a clear and understandable manner.

How long does the process take?

Depending on the type of assessment, the process may take 4–5 weeks from start to final report. This includes assessment sessions, scoring and interpretation, report writing, and a feedback appointment.

What’s the difference between a Cognitive Assessment and a Learning Assessment?

A Cognitive (or IQ) Assessment measures general thinking abilities such as reasoning, problem-solving, memory, and processing speed.
A Learning Assessment focuses on how these abilities affect academic skills like reading, writing, and mathematics. It helps identify specific learning disorders like dyslexia or dysgraphia.
Often, both are done together for a full picture.

What are ADHD Assessments used for?

An ADHD assessment explores patterns of attention, focus, impulsivity, and self-regulation across different settings (home, school, work). It helps determine whether symptoms align with ADHD and guides personalised strategies or referrals for medical review if needed.

What are Autism Assessments used for?

Autism assessments explore social communication, behaviour, sensory preferences, and developmental history. We use gold-standard tools and a neurodiversity-affirming approach to help individuals and families better understand strengths, challenges, and support options.

Are these assessments valid for school or NDIS purposes?

Yes, our assessments and reports are carried out by registered psychologists using standardised tools that are recognised by schools, NDIS, and health professionals.

Can adults also be assessed for ADHD, Autism, or Cognitive functioning?

Yes, absolutely. Many adults seek clarity later in life. Assessments can help you understand your experiences, access support, and make informed choices about work, relationships, or self-care. However, if you are over 18 and seeking a prescription for ADHD medication, it is advisable to consult a psychiatrist for getting assessed for ADHD.

How should I or my child prepare for the assessment?

Get a good night’s sleep, eat a balanced meal, and arrive on time. Bring any relevant school reports or prior assessments. We aim to create a relaxed environment, so you or your child feels comfortable and focused.
