Scopic Care Psychology Rouse Hill. Therapy & Assessments

Find answers to common questions about our psychology services, assessments, payment options, rebates, and appointment process at Scopic Care.

What are the fees for counselling sessions?

Individual counselling: $260 per session for a standard 50-minute session.

With a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $101.55 per session, bringing your out-of-pocket cost to $158.45.

In some cases, we need to book a 90-minute session. This is discussed with you beforehand. A 90 minute session is $300.

Couples and family counselling: $300 per session.

Please note: Medicare rebates do not apply to couples or family sessions.

Does having a Mental Health Care plan mean that Medicare will cover the session fee, and how do I get the rebate?

Medicare does not cover the entire fee. There will be a gap payment that you will need to pay out of pocket. You will pay the full cost upfront, and after processing your payment, we will submit your rebate. You will receive a portion of the session fee, $98.65, refunded to your bank account from Medicare.

Note: Many private health funds also provide rebates for psychology services; please check with your provider.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

A referral is not required to see a psychologist unless you wish to access the Medicare rebates, in which case you need to see your GP to get a referral letter and a Mental Health Care Plan.

What do psychologists do?

Psychologists help people understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to improve wellbeing and daily functioning. They use evidence-based strategies to support individuals, couples, and families through challenges such as stress, anxiety, relationship issues, learning or behavioural concerns, life transitions and more.

Psychologists also help people with building resilience, strengthen relationships, enhance performance, and reach their full potential.

What to expect in the first session with my psychologist?

Your first session is an opportunity for your psychologist to get to know you and understand what has brought you to therapy. You will be invited to share your main concerns, background information, and goals for support. The psychologist may ask questions about your wellbeing, daily life, relationships, and any relevant history to form a complete picture of your needs.

It’s also a chance for you to ask questions, learn about how therapy works, and discuss what you’d like to achieve.

What is the cancellation & rescheduling policy?

We understand that unexpected situations can arise and that you may need to change or cancel your appointment. To ensure we can offer appointments to those on our waiting list, we have the following policy in place:

48 hours’ notice is required for all cancellations or rescheduling of appointments.

If less than 48 hours’ notice is provided, or if you do not attend your appointment, the full session fee will apply.

Please note: Medicare rebates cannot be claimed for missed appointments, late cancellations, or rescheduled sessions with less than 48 hours’ notice, as services must be delivered to qualify.

What if I can’t make my appointment?

We recommend that you plan your appointments in advance to minimise any unexpected issues. If you are unable to attend in person, we always provide the option for a video or phone appointment.

Do you offer in-person and online appointments?

We offer in-person appointments at our practice in Rouse Hill, as well as online appointments for clients across Australia. Additionally, we provide outreach appointments where our psychologists can visit clients at their schools or homes to conduct assessments or provide sessions.
